Within their emotional and sensitive nature, people develop particular and unique bonds to music. "Beats: Retratos musicales del Festival Estéreo Picnic 2015" (Musical Portraits of the Festival Estéreo Picnic 2015) is a project whose goal is the recognition and exploration of musical/physical spaces based on the people who “compose” them and their own personal relationship with music: their concepts and definitions about music, memmories, rituals, moments, etc. The book  explores a view of this music festival based on what makes up its essence: the people who attend it and their own unique relationships with music, and how they actually make up the inner life of the Festival Estereo Picnic 2015, an event of great importance in the Bogota music scene.

I. THE BOOK

The book answers the question "What is music?" in four chapters that grouped four conceptions of music as: SOUND,  A FEELING, LIFE and ANOTHER WORLD. In each of them there are different rituals, stories, places, related to music. The book itself becomes music through the passage from harmony, to dissonance, and finally to silence.

II. THE RESEARCH

I conducted an ethnographic exploration of the festival, where I collected testimonies of people who attended the event, randomly selected, and their own relationships with music. The questions were divided into four categories: General concepts about music and their definitions of it, memories related to music, own and social rituals related to music and the relationship between space and music in Bogotá.

What was interesting from this collection of information was how charming these personal stories were, which in a way make them unique. It is these intimate and private stories that make up in a certain way an inner life of the festival, beyond what we normally perceive, and each one of them does it in a special way.
